this saturday from 2-5 i'm teaching a class on applying a hand picked zipper at modern domestic. this technique is used in couture garments and is a great way to install a perfect zipper in difficult slippery fabrics. there's still room in the class if you are interested in learning this

last thursday on alberta street has been one of my favorite and most attended events in portland since i moved here 8 1/2 years ago. local artists of all kinds fill the streets for several hours setting up tables to sell their goods, performing music, dance, vaudeville, stilt walking, and every other kind of artistic self expression you can think of. mostly i've just attended, but on a few occasions i've set up shop and peddled my skirts. tomorrow i'm setting up on the 18th block and will be selling skirts along with my friend and co-worker Susan of sulu design. all proceeds from our sales tomorrow night will go to benefit the earthquake/tsunami victims of Japan. hope to see you out...

i recently took a weekend trip to the coast - visited cannon beach, seaside and astoria. the weather was amazingly beautiful, a small miracle on the oregon coast. i took a few pictures, but an article in the New York Times really did my home town justice. funny that my co-worker (formerly of Astoria New York)shared this with me

oh my! it's been awhile...i've been up to my elbows in designing my fall/winter collection, never mind what happened to spring/summer. actually, i'll be returning to that shortly, but for now i'm getting ready to show the fall collection at my first fashion show i've done in a few years. i'm really excited! my favorite former teacher, sharon blair, opened a sewing school and is celebrating her 1st year anniversary with this benefit fashion show. it happens this saturday, so i'll post photos as soon as i can
