Merry Christmas!

Sunshine, blue skies, and cacti in the southwest with family has been a beautiful respite from the rain and cold. It's also been a great time to break out the sketchbook.

I hope you have enjoyed and found inspiration, renewal, and peace in your holidays too!

i'm in a new york state of mind

a recent trip to new york

one of my favorite designers, ralph lauren had gorgous window displays. an all white silk, feathers and snow confection took me back to the roaring twenties i've never been to. do you connect with a time period you never lived? the twenties really does it for me, i must have been a flapper in a past life.  although this isn't me now, i really love the sumptious excess of the twenties.  look at all that champagne and flowing silk gowns, wouldn't one of these dresses look and feel amazing on!?  i love how lauren's designs draw inspiration from the past but has a contemporary feel and is relevant to the now. not my now, but perhaps in a future life.

i've been working with a fit model lately to create a block, a basic pattern that will be the foundation of all designs. our last fitting was just before thanksgiving. the muslin fit almost perfectly with only a few minor revisions.

i've also been learning a CAD program that i can use to digitize my patterns or create new patterns on the computer. i'm excited to utilize the grading tool, this will allow me to size up and down consistently and SO much easier than doing it manually.
