mid-week inspiration

i took the two photos of the coney island windows in seattle back in march and have been waiting for the right time to use them. i had intended to create a sunny summer inspirational post, but when i saw this picture below with the dramatic sky, it rang true to what's been happening with our pre-summer weather. it was also fitting with my daughter moving back from brooklyn this week, yay! ok, now lets have some summer!

Open Season Fashion Show - Part 3

pendleton's portland collection was shown wednesday night at rontoms. sorry, more bad photos, i swear i'll get better at this! but if you click on that link above, their website has really good photos of the pieces.

everything came together to make this the best show yet. the collection was absolutely gorgeous, i never would have thought i would love this type of northwest style, and it wasn't just wool as most of us associate with pendleton. the venue worked really well for the show too, i had a good seat, good company, and the band lovers played and is definitely a new favorite

Open Season Fashion Show - Part 2

day two of the mercury's fashion show - tuesday's show featured designers reif and brady lange

sheer panels on tops, skirts, and dresses made reif's clothing both romantic and edgy. lange's tailored looks included lots of colorful jackets with shorts for both men and women. this wide legged jump suit was phenomenal!

Open Season Fashion Show - Part 1

portland's fashion week started last night with a show with designers holly stalder, emily ryan and liza rietz. the beautiful designs worked so well together, i'm sorry i don't know who's dresses are pictured below. i didn't get any photos of stalders designs somehow, but i did of ryan and rietz, so sorry ladies. i know i'm a terrible photographer. tonight i'll bring my actual camera and take notes!

my mom once told me she thought she thought she was born to gypsies, she had a wanderlust.  when the counterculture and social revolution came around, she was married and starting a family. now in her retirement, she's finally getting to stretch out of her conventional life, just a little bit. i'll get her to burning man one of these years. this is one of my favorite photos, i laugh out loud everytime i see it. here's her a few years back in quartsite when she and my dad began trekking down to arizona for the winters.  oh, and that's not my dad.  i'll find one of those photos of him in the elvis pants. father's day is coming soon! what would they think if they knew i'm blasting the world with embarrassing photos?!

i have my mom to thank for my wanderlust, i swear i inherited it, i felt it as a young child.  i'm also so grateful for the patient sewing lessons that led me down this path. so what to do with the energy to move and the patience to stay put and see something thru? its a constant battle i tell you. but in really listening to my heart, i find there is no other choice but to do it all, but more on that later.

thank you mom for gifting me my work, being my friend, making me laugh, and inspiring me, i love you, and you're getting a tattoo next!
